Over the weekend and down under, Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown for 2013’s hottest songs occurred. The radio station’s listeners all contribute ten votes and the winners are slowly revealed throughout the day and night. The event is tied into the festivities surrounding Australia’s national holiday. The results mostly land within the electronic and pop genres as well, so the whole shebang sounds like a really fun party to me.
Singer-songwriter Vance Joy came out on top of the list with “Riptide“, and can be caught here at Hammerstein Ballroom on March 1st opening for Young the Giant. Rounding out the top 5, in order: The enigmatic Lorde with “Royals“, Daft Punk & Pharrell’s inescapable “Get Lucky“, Arctic Monkey’s lead single off AM, “Do I Wanna Know“, and Flume & Chet Faker’s “Drop the Game“. Check out the rest of the Hottest 100 in the embedded playlist below.
Lorde can be found at Roseland March 10th through 12th before they shutdown for good. Arctic Monkeys will be at MSG on February 8th. Both are sold out.
