The synthpop duo from Brooklyn, NY closed the 4th annual House of Vans parties with a free show in their Greenpoint venue. This year, House of Vans hosted a series of free summer concerts that included such acts as Chrome Sparks, STRFKR, Future Islands, The Black Lips, Gorilla Biscuits, and Poolside. These have been a series of successful shows, with every single one getting “sold out” in a matter of days.
Holy Ghost! consists of Nick Millhiser and Alex Franke, they debuted their self-titled album in 2011 during some of the best years of the indie-dance boom, later followed by their solid sophomore effort, Dynamics, in 2013. Their music reminded me of the best parts about Hot Chip and Cut Copy. No nonsense dance grooves with a cool disconnected mood. Their live shows are upbeat, and the only thing they seem to be serious about is to get you to dance. There’s no overstuffing or complicated sounding material here, and I’m glad to see their live shows fits their sound so well, lots of fun, lots of dancing.
