Avers Released Their Debut, Playing Shows

Avers, whom we caught opening for Cloud Control earlier this year, impressed the hell out of me. The group of five, mostly multi-instrumentalists, are representatives of the Richmond, Virginia music scene. They play a style of upbeat psych rock that lends itself well to the stage. The group independently released their debut album, entitled Empty Light, on April 22nd. Check below for a stream of half its contents. Elements of it such as “White Horses” and “Only One” show a strong, rhythmic output of energy, but there is a nice dichotomy with its slower, dreampop-laced tracks like “Empty Light”.

They have two NYC shows forthcoming, June 4th at Rough Trade opening for Futurebirds, and July 28th at Music Hall of Williamsburg supporting Thao & The Get Down Stay Down.
